Hi there! Nice to meet you!Hi and welcome to math with Mrs. Fiorica! My teaching philosophy has always been to make learning fun and to take the time to build a trusting relationship with all my students. I want them to feel safe and welcomed while in my class. Never hesitate to reach out for any concern, big or small! Remind will be my fastest avenue for getting in touch with me quickly! This is my 3rd year here at Ivy Hawn and I know it will be the best yet! |
Grading-
In my class grades are reflected specifically through standards. If a student is not proficient (70% or higher) on meeting that specific skill, there will be an opportunity for remediation and retesting. Expect to hear the term “exit ticket” from your student as that will be a quick way for me to gauge their understanding daily. This may look like 1 question on a sticky note, teacher observation/conference or a multi question formative. Students will always have a warning on upcoming summative assessments. I will be implementing a new strategy for students to request a retake. Students will fill out the request ticket and reflect on how they have prepared for this retake. If a student requests to retake a summative, any remediation will be completed on their own and they will have 5 days from the original summative date to complete this retake and it can only be retaken once.
Homework-
Homework is not graded. This does not mean it is not important, as homework is a great tool for students to practice independently and bring in questions (which will in fact affect their grade). I will never assign anything that takes more than 20 minutes. It is usually about 6 questions. You can expect to see homework a few times a week, but not every night and it will be checked daily.
